CELEBRATIONS – CHINESE NEW YEAR – FIRE MONKEY “2016”

Celebrations - Chinese New Year

Fire Monkey "2016"

Characteristics:

Start : February 8th, 2016
End : January 27th, 2017
Element : Fire

Description:

The Monkey (猴)is the ninthof the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. The Year of the Monkey is associated with the Earthly Branch symbol 申.

Personality:

Occupying the 9th position on the Chinese Zodiac, the Monkey possesses such character traits as curiosity, mischievousness, and cleverness. Forever playful, Monkeys are the masters of practical jokes. Even though their intentions are always good, this desire to be a prankster has a tendency to create ill will and hurt feelings.

Although they are inherently intellectual and creative, Monkeys at times have trouble exhibiting these qualities. When that happens, they appear to others to be confused. But nothing could be further from the truth as Monkeys thrive on being challenged. Monkeys prefer urban life to rural, and their favorite pastime is people-watching.

The Fire Monkey:

The Fire Monkey is the most active and aggressive of the Monkeys. Naturally dominant, he automatically gravitates towards leadership roles and is competitive in whatever he is doing. He will need to be careful not to let this overwhelm him and turn into toxic jealousy.

He also constantly strives to be in control of whatever situation he is in, which can become overbearing. The main drive for whatever he embarks on is to head straight for the top and stay there. However, when he is in charge of a situation, his people skills kick in and he does nurture those under his charge who need it.

With his Fire energy, this agile, impulsive Monkey often leaps where angels fear to tread. This reckless behavior sometimes turns out to not be to the Fire Monkey’s advantage. However, he is very creative, dynamic and has a particularly good talent at drawing people to him – this often helps him get out of scrapes. He’ll leap from tree to tree – whichever has the most fruit at the time – then find the quickest, cleverest escape before others get to him.

In general though, the Fire Monkey is flamboyant and charmingly friendly, and has a large social circle.

Life Lessons:

The Fire Monkey’s aggression needs to be channeled correctly to correct and positive directions, or he risks become very destructive and harmful. If the Fire Monkey could develop more patience, it would be good for him and those who work with him The Fire Monkey also needs to think through his ideas before acting on them in order to safeguard his own interests.

Brief Description:

A brief description of the Most Popular Topics of this Release are: Clearly Masonry or Freemasonry, and in particular Freemasonryin Uruguay, and even more precisely the Masonic Lodge "Gran Oriente de Uruguay", whose 25th Anniversary is honoured with this issue.

Freemasonryis a Fraternal Organisation that traces its origins to the local fraternities of Stonemasons, which from the end of the XIV Century regulated the qualifications of Stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients. Masons are members of the organization. The degrees of Freemasonry, its gradal system, retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, journeyman or fellow (now called Fellowcraft), and Master Mason. These are the degrees offered by craft, or blue lodge Freemasonry. There are additional degrees, which vary with locality and jurisdiction, and are now administered by different bodies than the craft degrees.

The basic, local organisational unit of Freemasonry is the Lodge. The Lodgesare usually supervised and governed at the regional level (usually coterminous with either a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient. There is no international, world-wide Grand Lodge that supervises all of Freemasonry. Each Grand Lodge is independent, and they do not necessarily recognise each other.

Then, the desing of the Issue is divided in three clearly defined components, two of them sharing the foreground, that are the kind of Coin that is shown at right, and the Sculptureat Left, over a background of a Chessboard like Floor Tileswith three different Columnsover it, and a full of Stars Sky behind them.

The Coinbrings obviously NumismaticTopic to the Release, also Metalsand Minerals, in particular Gold, as the most probable Materialin which the Coinis made. Then, from the elements in the Coin, clearly the Square and Compass, main Symbols of the Freemasonry, and also Toolsof Measurementand Construction. Also the inscription of "Libertad, Igualdad, Fraternidad" included in the Coin, refers to the French Phrase "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité" from the French Revolution, so there is here a link to the France as a Country, and to Democracy, Republicanism, and Liberalism Ideologies.

Then, the Sculpture, besides bringing Artto the Topics of the Issue, it also brings Work, as it is the Topic of the Scuplture, and also Marble, because of the Materialin which it was made, and even the Sculptor Angel Ferrari Rocca as the Artist who made the Sculpture that is shown in the Stamp.

Finally, the background of the Stamp links the Release to Architecture by the Columns, to Astronomy or Space, through the Stars and Sky, and Chess because of the Chessboardlike Tiles.

TOPIC STUDY - #0001 - CHINESE CALENDAR - URUGUAY

Chinese Calendar - UruguayPreviousNext)

Topic Description:

The Chinese Calendaris a Lunisolar Calendarwhich arranges the year, month and day number upon the astronomical date. It is used for traditional activities in China and Overseas Chinese communities. It determines the date for the Chinese traditional holidays, and instructs Chinese people in selecting the Lucky Dayof a Weddingor Funeral, for Opening a venture, or a Relocation.

In the Chinese Calendar, the Daysbegin at midnight and end at midnight of the next day. The Months begin on the day with the dark (new) moon and end on the day before the next dark moon. The Yearsbegin on the day with the dark moon near the Vernal Commences. The Solar Termsare the important components of the Chinese calendar. There are one or two, and occasionally three, solar terms within a month.

The present Chinese Calendar is the product of evolution. Many Astronomical and Seasonal Factorswere added by Ancient Scientists, and people can reckon the date of natural phenomena such as the moon phase and tide upon the Chinese calendar. The Chinese calendar has over 100 versions, and the characteristics of these versions reflect the evolutionary route of the Chinese calendar. Like Chinese characters, these versions of Chinese Calendar is adopted throughout the Sinosphere. In Korea, Vietnam, and the Ryukyu Islands, the Chinese Calendar was adopted completely. In Japan, the Chinese calendar was used before the Edo period, and the later Japanese calendarused the Algorithm of the Chinese calendar.

The Chinese Calendaris not the official calendar in China(see Minguocalendar for post-1912 History), but plays an important role there. The official name of the Chinese calendar is the Rural Calendar, but people often refer to the Chinese calendarwith other names, such as the Former Calendar, the Traditional Calendar, or the Yin Calendar.

Brief Description:

A brief description of the Most Popular Topics of this Release are: The Chinese Horoscope, or Chinese Zodiac, that is based on the Chinese Calendar, and in particular his Year of the Goat or Year of the Sheep, depending on the region in which the Calendar is used, then, even more particularly, and although not specified in the issue, The Year of the Water Goat, is the one celebrated in this Release.

Also, surrounding Chinese Horoscope and Chinese Calendar many Topics arises. Clearly Astrology. Then, from general to particular, Measuring Systems, Time Measuring Systems, and Calendars. Also, perhaps the more abstract Timeitself too. And, of course Chinaas the country, or more in general the Eastern Culture.

Now, looking at the desing of the Issue, it is clear that The Goat, in particular from a wider Farm Animals, Animals or Fauna, is the most relevant topic of the issue. Then Space, Astronomy, or even Starscould be another Topics, as the background selected for the stamp is a Night Sky full of Stars. Finally, Photography, could be added too, as both the Goatat foreground and the Skyat background seems to be extracted from Photographies, and not from Paintings.

Then, the First day Cancelation adds another topic by his design, that is Chinese Characterers, as these Characters are not usual to see them in stamps from western culture countries.

It is clear that The Horse, in particular from a wider Farm Animals, Animals or Fauna, is another relevant topic of the issue too, however is barely approached by the desing of the Issue through the Horseshoe Footprint that took almost all the Stamp design. Then, following this line of the release design, Horseshoe could put the Release in BlacksmithTopic, and even Steel, Metals, and Minerals ones, and then Footprintcould lead us to DetectiveTopics too.

Now, another peculiarity from the desing of this release, is the naive way of linking the Lunar Calendar with the Pictureof the Lunar Soileven with the Footprintof the Stepfrom the Astronautat bottom slightly to the left. Although probably controversial the design decision that was made, the result is that it make that this release fit in Space, Astronomy, Moon, Space Flights, Flight to the Moon, Apolo 11, and NASA Collections.

Finally, just add that, neither the Block nor the First day Cancelation, adds Topics to the release.

A brief description of the Most Popular Topics of this Release are: The Chinese Horoscope, or Chinese Zodiac, that is based on the Chinese Calendar, and in particular his Year of the Goat or Year of the Sheep, depending on the region in which the Calendar is used, then, even more particularly, and although not specified in the issue, The Year of the Wood Goat, is the one celebrated in this Release.

Also, surrounding Chinese Horoscope and Chinese Calendar many Topics arises. Clearly Astrology. Then, from general to particular, Measuring Systems, Time Measuring Systems, Calendars. Also, the more abstract Timeitself. And, of course Chinaas the country, or more in general the Eastern Culture.

Now, looking at the desing of the Issue, it is clear that The Goat, in particular from a wider Farm Animals, Animals or Fauna, is the most relevant topic of the issue. Then Chinese Characterers could be another, as it is not usual to see them in western stamps. Finally, The Sketching, as a way of Painting, inside an ArtTopic, could be spotted.

Then, the block adds many more topics by his design: The most visible ones could be the inclusion of Mountainsor Rocksfrom wider ones Geographyand Geology, and Cane or Reed, from the world of Plants, Vegetables, or Flora. The Block design also adds, at the bottom of the block, the other eleven animals from the Chinese Calendar, that are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Horse, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. And regarding to Painting Methods or Styles, now it appears the Aquarelle or Watercolour in the main painting of the block, and the Caricaturefor the animals at the bottom of the block.

Although that from the First day Cancelation and the Specially Designed Cover no more Topics are added, it is worth to say that both reinforce beautifully the Topics: Goats, Reed or Cane, and Chinese Characters. In particular, the Printing Embossed of the Circle with the Goat over the Rocks gives the cover an Outstanding Quality.

Finally, a last sentence to put the attention on that, this Release is the Second since 2014 about Chinese Horoscope. The Firstwas Issued on January 31st of 2014. In both releases the Block Format of the Issue was the same, 9 stamps [3x3], and the Style, Technique, and Colours used in both Blocks was also the same. So, lets hope that next February 8th of 2016 another beautifully designed release will be issued celebrating the First day of the Fire Monkey Chinese Year.

Topics:

Issue:

As Main Topic: The most direct and popular one will be Comics, inside it, one could identify: Argentinean Comics, and of course in particular Mafalda Comic, the comic strip written and drawn by Argentinecartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado, better known by his pen name Quino.

Then, going in the opposite direction, to wider Topics, one could identify: Art, Painting, also Literature, Philosophyand of course Humor, even could be spotted Politicsand Human Rights, by the peculiar concerns of the little girl Mafalda, the Main character of this Comic Strip.

Then, surrounding the main topic, could be found the followings:Besides the 50th Anniversary, I think the Personality of the Cartoonist known as Quino, is clearly honoured because of the deep relation that worldwide is done between the Artist Quinoand his Creation Mafalda.

It is a bit difficult to spot the surrounding Topics of this release, as if one dive deep could see path of links in many directions, however, trying to select the most revelant ones, I think Childhood will be included for sure, also Education, Family, Friendship too, and in a deeper way Innocence, in the positive form of it, Observation, Deep Meditation, Questioning of the Status-Quo, and the Fights for Human Rights, Peace, Freedom, Equality, the list could be endless, Life, Love, Care, to summarize one could group all of them in the Desire of building a better World.

Now, regarding the desing of the stamps: It is a nicely composed Se-Tenant showing a Comic Strip of only two Drawings, in which Quino strongly and precisely shows Mafalda, and also obviously his, worries of the Bad Health in which our World is, and the subsecuent Prideand Joyafter seeing her Earth Globe as an Unique crowd fighting for his Rights.

So the Topics again could be many, that ranges from the most direct as Maps because of the Earth Globe, to more implicit ones as: Ecology, Health, Union, Equality, Fight, and also Emotions, the last one gracefully inferred in Mafaldaby the drawings of Quino.

Anotther Topic that could be spotted by the design is Clothing, and inside them the followings: Children Clothing, Shoes, Dresses, Hair Ribbons.

Finally, in a more symbolic way: The selection of this particular strip of two panels from the vast production of Quino drawings of Mafalda, gives a clear message of what this release want to tell. At least in my opinion, this issue put the focus in the Union of the People of the Earth, in that We consider ourselves simply as Human Beings, that We leave all Frontiersbehinds and Unite in one only Humankind. That is what will change these Ill World that worries Mafaldaat first, in the Healthy one in which is proud then.

Stamp 1:

The Stamp 1: It is a great stamp to add a bit of Humor, in Collections about Healthor Ecology, and also in more precise ones as Diseasesor Fever, because of how Quinogracefully refers to them with the Handof Mafaldain a Gestureof Measuring Earth Fever, and also by the Thermometerthat is attached with Bandagesto the Earth Globe. That object addition also makes this Stamp and the Release also useful in Measuring Systems Collections.

Also Medicineand Pharmaceutical Products Topic is included in this Stamp because of the little Flaskwith a White Label having a Black Cross over a Red Circle that although the colours selected are quite weird, it is clear that there is some Medicine in it.

Then, in an EmotionsCollection this stamp in particular could help for Sadness, and Worry.

Finally, the Chairin which Mafalda is sitting, could be useful for a FurnitureCollection.

Stamp 2:

The Stamp 2: is a bit more difficult to interpret than the first one that is pretty clear. I concluded that the Earth Globe now depicts a Crowd of people in a Manifestation, raisng Banners and Signs, and based in that interpretation is that I write this article on this Release. So Manifestations, People Fighting for his Rights, Union, Equality because of the Frontier Fading, could be some of the Topics that raise in particular from this Stamp.

Then, in an EmotionsCollection this stamp in particular could help for Happiness, Satisfaction and Pride.

Block:

The block: Clearly reinforce the Childhood Topic, as it shows the other Children Characters of the Comic Strip. The friends of Mafalda: Felipe, Manolito, Susanita, Miguelito and Libertad, and his Baby brother Guille. With the last one BabiesTopic is included, and also perhaps Pacifier, as Guille has one in his mouth.

FDC:

The desing of the First Day Cancelation: Only Reinforces the 50th AnniversaryTopic, as it shows a huge 50number with Mafaldabetween it Digits. The same Logotypethat is shown in both stamps and in the Block.

If you consider that there are another topics in this stamp, that were not spot in this review, you are encouraged to telling me about them, so please do not hesitate to post a comment. I would appreciate your help very much.
