This serie of 4 stamps it was issued to commemorate the arrival of cruisers to the ports of Uruguay.

At this time, this issue has became a traditional and eagerly awaited serie year by year, as it has been issuing since 2010 regulary, however, it was issued in 2006 the first one, of this 4 series.

The serie is always issued on southern late spring, on october or november, and generally it is issued at the day that the first cruise ship arrives to one of the ports of Uruguay, the day that the cruisers season is proclaimed as inaugurated.

Cruisers arrivals is a way of tourism that has been increasing in Uruguay, and for the year that this serie was issued, almost 250 cruise ships will arive on the ports of "Montevideo", Capital of Uruguay, and "Punta del Este", international most known tourist city of this country.

The desing of this serie, although maintaining the structure of previous ones, it is slightly different, both, in each stamp conception, and in the block conception.

The stamps now are composed by two parts, the one showing the cruise ship, and the other showing a tourist place of Uruguay. In previous issues, there were only one frame, with cruiser at foreground, and the rest as background.

And the change in the block were two. The first is that now it is composed by only 2 series, and not 4, as it was in previous issues. And the second change is that the configuration of the stamps in the block, enable the creation of two kinds of se-tenant versions of this serie, one with all the stamps in a row, and the other with the stamps in a 2 row by 2 columns configuration, that makes 4 different se-tenant available for the serie.

The cruisers chosen for the serie were: The National Geographic Explorer, The Celebrity Infinity, The Grand Celebration, and The MSC Magnifica.

In fact, The National Geographic Explorer, was the cruise ship that inaugurates the season, arriving the 22nd of October, the day the sere was issued.

And, the tourist places of Uruguay chosen to be included in the issue were: The lighthouse of "Colonia del Sacramento", the "Yacht Club Uruguay", placed in the "Puerto del Buceo" Neighbourhood of Montevideo, the "Fortaleza de Santa Teresa" located in the department of "Rocha", and the "Argentino Hotel" placed in the city of Piriapolis.

Finally, another topics could be spotted in all stamps of the serie: Obviously water, or perhaps better named sea, are present in all stamps, and also, vegetal kindom, mainly trees, are in all stamps too.

The "Puerto del buceo", that could be translated to "Port of diving", is a small bay on the coast of Montevideo.

This bay has great historical significance, in it, landed the English invaders, led by Sir Samuel Auchmuty in 1807. Also here, was fought the "Combate naval del Buceo" in 1814 with the victory of Admiral William Brown, which marked an important moment in the wars against Spanish colonialism. The Celebration was retired from the Carnival fleet in April 2008. The Grand Celebration had an extensive refit before re-entering service. The refit included new hull artwork. Unlike her sister ship, retired Carnival ship Jubilee, the trademark whale tail funnel on Grand Celebration was not altered or removed, but only painted over. The Grand Celebration entered into service for Iberocruceros in the summer of 2008.

On the morning of 10 February 1989, the Carnival Celebration collided with the Cuban freighter Captain San Luis, breaking the freighter in half and causing it to sink in 13 minutes.[4] Three crew members of the Captain San Luis, including its captain, were missing and presumed dead. The freighter was hauling cement at the time of the collision, and had been experiencing electrical problems which left it without lights, navigational equipment, or steering. The Celebration remained on-site, rescuing the 42 survivors from the water and transferring them to a Cuban navy ship and tugboat before continuing on to Miami.

The fort was strategically located on a rocky outcrop at 58 m above sea level along the Camino de la Angostura, the only way through the marshes to the sea.

On October 6, 1762, a cornerstone was laid at the foot of the foundation and the fort was given the name in honor of Saint Teresa, by the portuguese, however, before finish it construction, it was taken by spanish, and they were the ones who end the fortress and use it for their benefit.

The outer wall is about four feet thick at the base and about two meters, the interior, filling the space between one and another. A solid embankment in some places is up to 7,00 m wide. The height of the outside walls in some places reaches to 11,50 m.

The interior construction, also of stone masonry, preserved in perfect condition from the colonial era, have been restored with care and replacement roofs added. During the so-called Guerra Grande in the mid-nineteenth century, it was occupied by Manuel Oribe, but afterwards the structure was abandoned.

In 1895 it was reoccupied as a prison.

In 1921, under Dr. Baltasar Brum, the historian and archaeologist Horacio Arredondo conceived and proposed to restore it and preserve the Fort of San Miguel and the Fortaleza del Cerro in Montevideo. In 1928 his plan was put into practice and the forts were restored.

Since the 1940s, it has contained a museum and been a tourist site; one of the few bastions of the colonial era in America which still survives.

Originally founded as Lauro Lines by Achille Lauro, the company entered the cruise business in the 1960s, operating two ships, the Angelina Lauro and MS Achille Lauro, both of which met fiery ends. After the Angelina Lauro burnt in the port of St.Thomas in 1979, Lauro Lines, also known as Flotta Lauro, met with bad times, now operating just one ship, the Achille Lauro. In 1985, the Achille Lauro was hijacked by members of the Palestine Liberation Front, and the much-publicised event further dropped passenger numbers. In 1989, Flotta Lauro was purchased by Mediterranean Shipping Company and renamed StarLauro Cruises. In 1994, the Achille Lauro caught fire and sank.
